The Power of Choice
God has endowed humanity with the unique ability to choose, setting us apart even from His other creations.
The Lord allowed certain stories of certain people in history to be written and put in the Bible, so that we can learn about Him but also learn from their successes and failures.
It is therefore important to study the Word, so that we can make informed choices.
Learning from Biblical Characters: Joseph and Peter
Joseph's and Peter's stories provide profound insights into how choices shape our spiritual and earthly journeys. Joseph's resilience and integrity in the face of life's trials and Peter's passionate and impulsive decisions both demonstrate the consequences and opportunities our choices create.
Joseph's story
In Joseph’s story a lot of major choices were made FOR him. It was not his choice to have a dream, to get a special tunic that set him apart, be thrown in a well or be sold as a slave. The power of his choice lies in HOW he re-acted to the choice that was made for him.
Peter's story
In contrast we read about Peter in the New Testament. He was older than Joseph. He was in contact with the Living Word, Jesus. In contrast with Joseph, most things happening in his life, was the result of choice HE made.
For example, Peter made the choice to follow Jesus after He was captured and got himself in the difficult situation where he denied Jesus 3 times.
Everyday Choices and Their Impact
Daily, we face numerous small decisions—from what we wear to how we respond to unexpected challenges. These choices might seem minor, yet they cumulatively shape our character and destiny.
As believers and followers of Jesus, our new lives in Christ start when we make the biggest, most important choice: To accept His saving grace and to follow Christ.
Peter’s result of his choices was to write down wisdom he gathered from real life experiences. He knew the power to look at his Saviour and not his circumstances. Both Joseph and Peter found their purpose in saving people.
The biggest choice that have eternal value, is your choice of faith.
In a world where there as so many belief systems, religions, where right and wrong can change from one week to another – it is so important to know that you made the choice for Jesus, because of what YOU decide.
It is not a choice your parents, friends, family, church, culture can make for you. It is a deep personal choice of conviction.
Life is a journey of choices.
Choices can be hard, but it is also exciting.
Choices strengthens the image of God in you. He gave you the ability to choose. He wants your faith to grow. It starts with small choices like to pray first thing in the morning.
When we grow in our knowledge of the Word and listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in the small things we grow every time by making the right small choices, leading up to having more wisdom when making bigger choices.
Seek His face, pray constantly, know His Word because the Holy Spirit will never speak against the Word. What Would Jesus Do? (choose)
Even when your choice was wrong, even if the right choice had wrong results, even if you are at a place of making right choices – keep running to God with everything in you.
Know the Truth, the Truth is that He has chosen you. Nothing you can do, can make Him love you less.
Always choose the One who first has chosen you!
