Mission Trip to Zimbabwe: United for His Kingdom

Christian Fellowship Church went on a spectacular and life-changing mission trip to Buhera, Zimbabwe from 17-25 June.

Each day was a blessing and showed the love that God has for us in different and thought-provoking ways. They returned to SA filled with the Spirit.  The trip was a reminder on how God uses us as vessels to build His kingdom.

Six missionaries under the guidance of Pastor Roy Spitzer went on this trip to serve the church and its community in rural Zimbabwe. These missionaries were Madison Wolstencroft, Dikeledi Monama, Aimee Jantjies, Neo Dipale and Jacques Green. Each missionary brought something different to the trip and aligned with each other in Godly unity.

The road to Zimbabwe

The first day started with the team leaving early for the road up north to Zimbabwe. The trip itself took much longer than expected with roads to the village in a poor and bumpy condition. This did not deter the missionaries who eventually found their way with the help of local guides to their destination.

Settling in and spreading the Gospel

The second day allowed the missionaries to settle in and set up in the kitchen and in the rooms where they were staying. The also met some of the locals where cultural traditions were shared.

One of the highlights was a teaching that Pastor Roy gave on God’s love for us. There was also a worship session at a bonfire at night, where an altar call took place. This presented an opportunity for locals to give their life to the Lord.

Meeting the Chief

The third day was quite an experience for Pastor Roy who met the local chief. After a discussion, authority was given to Pastor Roy to speak and preach on his land.

The missionaries visited the local school in the church building and spent time with the kids, who could not keep their excitement. The team played numerous games with the kids and also handed out colouring books, stationery and other gifts to the appreciative children.

Later that day the team also visited houses, prayed for people, handed out Shona Bibles and even painted a lady’s nails. She had earlier spotted Aimee’s nails  and wanted to get the same special treatment.

Furthermore, the team also hosted a session with the local community where they watched a Jesus film and listened to a teaching.

Witnessing sowing and reaping first-hand

One of the amazing aspects of the mission trip was how the Holy Spirit moved. Teachings that were prepared beforehand was substituted with on the spot due to a need for a specific word to the community.

An example of this was when Pastor Roy gave a teaching to the community that worked in the local garden next to the church. The team also met the man who had built the church in the community. One could soon realise that His commitment to God’s word as well as His obedience had given him blessings beyond measure. His labour and hard work is reflected in the crops of maize that is growing next to the church.

Sunday service to remember

Sunday was an opportunity to host a special church service where praise and worship stirred the presence of the Holy Spirit. Lives were touched that morning. Powerful prayers were a theme of this service. Donations were also handed out to the community who were touched by the generosity.

The mission team thanked the community at large, who had not only been extremely generous to our missionaries with traditional cooked meals, but also with their servant hearts. In essence, everyone served but was also served by others. This showcased God's love in action.
