A New Season
In this sermon series, we're diving into the book of Joshua to understand what it means to step into God's promises for our lives. Joshua, a faithful disciple and capable leader, took charge of the Israelites at a crucial moment.
After 40 years of wandering in the desert due to unbelief, the time had come for a new chapter. This isn't just a historical event; it's a call for us today.
What areas in your life have you been wandering in? The time has come to trust God's promises and move forward.
"Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them."
Joshua 1:1-2
Stepping Out in Faith
God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous, promising to be with him just as He was with Moses. Despite being a skilled warrior, Joshua's true strength lay in his faith in God's promises. Today, God is calling us to stop settling for less and take action. Whether it's a business venture, a change in your marriage, or a passion you've been putting off, God’s promises remain 'Yes' and 'Amen.'
"Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them."
Joshua 1:6-7
Obedience and Success
God's charge to Joshua emphasised obedience to His Word as the key to success. Joshua was instructed to study the Book of Instruction continually and to obey it fully. Success and prosperity in God's kingdom come from aligning our lives with His Word and being faithful to His commands.
This applies to us as well; as we meditate on God's Word and live it out, we set ourselves on the path to true success.
"Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do."
Joshua 1:8
Surrounding Yourself with Supportive Community
Joshua surrounded himself with people who were ready to obey and support him in the mission God had given them. They responded with unity and commitment, promising to follow Joshua just as they followed Moses. This shows the importance of having a support system that encourages and upholds us in our journey of faith. A supportive community is crucial for stepping into God's promises.
"They answered Joshua, 'We will do whatever you command us, and we will go wherever you send us.'"
Joshua 1:16-17
The Time Has Come
The time has come for us to step out of the stands and into the field. God is calling us to stop settling for less and step into the promises He has for us. Like Joshua, we must be strong and courageous, obedient to God's Word, and surround ourselves with a supportive community. It's time to stop merely surviving and start thriving in God's promises.
"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9
