Everything that God orchestrates has a divine purpose.
Roy Spitzer, the beloved maintenance manager at Saints Christian School and Little Saints Nursery School, is a living testimony of the fact that nothing happens by chance.
Decades ago, an altar call, changed Uncle Roy's life. The Holy Spirit came into his life and guided him to make a complete 180-degree turn.
In that moment he dedicated his life to the Lord. It was radical, but the Lord was just writing the first sentence of a new chapter. Since then, Uncle Roy has had the mentality of, "Here I am, Lord, use me for Your Kingdom."
In other words, a heart of serving, praise and worship to the King of Kings.
His relationship as a born-again Christian has taken him through numerous life-changing experiences and missions.
Another extraordinary, special and important mission is set to start on Sunday, 21 April.
Uncle Roy will be ordained as a pastor at Christian Fellowship Church on this special day. It is a true full circle moment - from giving his life at the altar to changing and speaking into lives as a pastor at the altar.
"It is a massive privilege to be ordained as a pastor. I love the Lord and it is such a privilege to minister. I am very excited, but I also know the responsibility of being in such an important position. It is a beginning of a new season, and I can’t wait to see what is ahead,” he says with a sparkle in his eyes.
Uncle Roy originally grew up in Johannesburg, before coming to Potchefstroom in the early eighties to join the air force squadron as an aircraft mechanic.
He has always had a gift of fixing things, but at that time he did not know the amazing plans that the Lord had in store for him.
After a car accident, Uncle Roy met paths with Barney Bernardo, who reluctantly fixed his car. Barney eventually started ministering to him. That would then lead to a meeting with Pastor Arthur Emslie and his wife, Angie.
“I went to church, and it was strange at first. People putting up their hands and worshipping was completely new to me, but I really liked the loving atmosphere. One Sunday, Arthur announced an altar call and I responded. Since then, my life has never been the same.”
A lifelong friendship between the Emslie’s and Uncle Roy started which would lead to the construction of Little Saints Nursery School and Saints Christian School as well as various developments on the church grounds.
A love for motorcycles has also had a profound impact on Uncle Roy, who started his own ministry with the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA), before returning to Christian Fellowship Family Church in 2009.
Beside his passion for two-wheeled machines, he also enjoys sitting in his garden and experiencing God through all his natural surroundings.
It is no secret that Uncle Roy’s fingerprints are all around. Find him on the school or church grounds and he will greet you with a friendly smile and a “lekker, man, lekker.”
He has a servant’s heart, whether it be fixing pipes or driving Saints learners to the next cultural or sporting activity.
In essence, Uncle Roy is a maintenance man not only in the physical aspects around school and church, but also in the spiritual where God continues to use Uncle Roy to fix, maintain and build into the lives of everyone he encounters.
We look forward to sharing in this new season in Uncle Roy's life!
