On a special testimony morning, Dean and Jolanda Rosin shared their personal journeys of financial stewardship and how God has guided them in managing their resources. The heart behind their testimony was clear: God must always be the central focus, even in our finances.
They shared nine practical tips for achieving financial freedom, each rooted in biblical wisdom, with the reminder that true financial peace comes from seeking God first in all things. These tips serve as a guide to keeping our financial lives aligned with God's purpose and trusting Him as our ultimate provider.
Nine practical tips for achieving financial freedom
Don’t Chase Money, Chase God. Always Put Him First
True financial freedom begins with putting God first in every area of our lives, including our finances. When we seek God's kingdom and His righteousness, everything else will fall into place. Chasing money leads to frustration and emptiness, but when we chase after God, we find contentment and provision.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
2. First Thing You Do When You Get Your Salary is to Pay Your Tithe
Tithing is a spiritual principle that teaches us to trust God with our finances. When we give our first fruits, we acknowledge that everything we have comes from Him and that He will provide for our needs. Tithing is an act of worship and obedience to God.
3. Give to God’s Kingdom and People in Need
Generosity is at the heart of God's kingdom. When we give to support God's work and help those in need, we reflect God's love and compassion. Giving opens the door for God's blessings to flow in our lives and the lives of others.
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”
Proverbs 19:17
4. Don’t Make Any Debt. Don’t Even Have a Credit Card
Debt can be a heavy burden that keeps us from experiencing financial freedom. The Bible encourages us to avoid debt whenever possible and to live within our means. By staying out of debt, we maintain financial peace and freedom to serve God without worry.
“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7 (KJV)
5. Do Extra Work for Extra Money
Working diligently and responsibly is part of God's design for our lives. By putting in extra effort, we not only provide for our needs but also have the opportunity to give and bless others. Hard work is rewarded, and God honours those who work with integrity.
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.”
Proverbs 13:11 (KJV)
6. Open a Separate Account for a Rainy Day
Being wise with our finances means preparing for the future and saving for unexpected expenses.
While we trust God to provide, it’s also wise to be good stewards by setting aside resources for times of need. This helps us remain stable in uncertain situations.
“There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.”
Proverbs 21:20 (KJV)
7. Be in Unity with Your Spouse with Any Financial Decisions
Marriage is a partnership, and unity in finances is essential for peace and success. Making decisions together builds trust and ensures that both partners are working toward the same financial goals, under God’s guidance.
8. Pay Off Your Debt/House as Soon as Possible. Put All Your Extra Money in Your Debt/House
Being in debt hinders financial freedom, and it is wise to pay off debts as quickly as possible. By focusing your extra resources on debt repayment, you free yourself from financial burdens and create space for God to bless you in new ways.
9. Don’t Look at Your Salary, Look at God
Our trust should never be placed in our income or salary, but in God who is our ultimate provider. By shifting our focus from our salary to God’s provision, we live by faith, knowing that He will supply all our needs.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
